The Old Fashioned is not as old-fashioned and masculine as it might first appear - quite the opposite: It is a refreshing banana version of one of the best drinks ever created.

The cocktail itself was created out of necessity, as the spirits were undrinkable on their own almost 150 years ago. For this reason, for example, whiskey was mixed with sugar, herbal extracts (today called bitters) and diluted with water. Some of these mixtures were bottled again.

So to speak, the bottled cocktail was the origin of today's freshly prepared cocktails in bars.
